Making Your House A Home: Bonsai Tree

In today's post about making your house a home I am going to tell you about one of our favorite attributes around the house: the bonsai tree. Bonsai tree literally means tree in jar but do not let yourself get fooled, it is not just a tree in a low-based pot, than every houseplant would be a bonsai tree, the artistic aspect is way to important for that!

It is important, according to the Asian tradition, that you choose an artistically by hand formed little tree in a low-based pot or plate, where it was humans intention of recreating and idealising nature. The secret is creating an ideal shape through techniques as pruning, thinning, wiring and burning. Like they rest on in the Japanese culture, the bonsai tree must be a reflection of harmony and discipline. Every twig and leave fulfills a function in the overall picture of a bonsai tree.

Are you convinced of taking this little reflection of the Japanese culture into your home? Than you can use the following tips about the maintenance and nourishment. Place the bonsai tree preferably at a window directed to the east or west and turn it 180 degrees every month so every side gets the same amount of sunlight. Strong warmth does more harm than good so do not place it to close to heating systems as a radiator, fireplace or stove. You also have to keep the ground in the pot moisturized.
Adding a bonsai tree into your interior will bring you one step closer to making your house a home. Follow our blog to stay up to date and fully accomplish that goal!
